New granite countertops can bring elegance, style and appeal to any kitchen. Granite kitchen countertops are available in about any color palette you can imagine. There are smooth or mottled textures, and finishes that range from glossy to matte. You can simulate the look of marble, stone or just about any design effect.

Avoiding Kitchen Clash With Colorado Springs Granite Countertops

However, choosing the wrong granite countertop style can have a detrimental effect. You’ll want to ensure that your kitchen countertop choice has a complimentary effect with your kitchen cabinets, flooring, window treatments, wall paint color and décor. If your kitchen is in need of an upgrade, consider the following tips and ideas for choosing the ideal granite countertops:

Cabinet considerations. To ensure your new granite counters will be in harmony with your cabinets, take the time to unscrew a small cabinet door and bring it along to the store. You’ll then be able to compare the wood tone and cabinet hardware with a range of options.

Swatches and samples. Snip a small swatch of fabric from an internal kitchen curtain hem and/or borrow one of your blind slats to bring along. A paint and flooring sample can be helpful as well. Consider also bringing a small décor element to the store such as a placemat, chair cushion and wall print to ensure a match.

Photos. If samples aren’t possible for all kitchen elements, take photos of your kitchen to view on your tablet or smartphone at the store. Just be sure that your monitor shows a color-corrected, accurate rendition of your kitchen colors.

Try compelling contrast. Pairing darker granite with lighter existing kitchen elements can be very compelling – and vice versa. Subtle flecks of an artfully chosen contrasting color can really play up this visual impact. However, you can also look for countertops with a bit of the prevalent color(s) in your kitchen.

Bring granite samples home. Once you’ve narrowed down some strong kitchen countertop choices, bring a few granite countertop samples home so that you can see it in its potential new home environment.

While the right kitchen countertop selection can take your kitchen to new heights of style and appeal, a mismatched choice means wasted money and time. Use these tips to make the very best Colorado Springs granite countertop selection, and shop Planet Granite for the top styles and features.

My worst fear about renovating my kitchen is that my countertops and my cabinets will clash. I don’t quite trust my design eye enough to know what would look good. That’s a really good idea to bring a cabinet door to the store to compare the wood tone with the range of options. Seeing the colors in the right lighting is also very important. Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks on choosing the right granite color!a

I really like your tip to take swatches and samples when picking out a granite color. I’ve heard that it is a good idea to pick the granite first and then match the colors to that since it is easier to adjust the paint color. Does it look good to mix granite types, or should I stick to the same one throughout the kitchen? Thanks for this information!

I’m redoing my kitchen counters. Thanks for the advice about bringing a cabinet door with you to the store to make sure the counter will match the kitchen. Another thing to do is to buy paint so that you can paint the kitchen to match the counter and cabinet.

I would be careful with taking photos in and comparing colors. I know that lighting can make colors appear different from what they actually are, but they can be good for getting an idea. I take some samples in to be sure.

Bring your samples for your other things is very smart. That way, you can directly compare them to the granite. I want to have a light wood cabinet in my kitchen and it might be hard to figure out what type of granite will look best with it. So, having my wood samples with me might help narrow down the choices.

I like your tip to take photos of your kitchen to the store to compare to marble samples. Do you have to pay to bring samples home, or is that a free service? I would want to try it out in my kitchen and see how it looked in all the different light before I bought it.

I would love to be able to bring samples of the granite back to my home. I didn’t even think about that, but it is a great idea. That way I can compare the different samples to the colors and lighting in my home. Then I will be able to decide which one is going to look best in my home!

I hadn’t ever given thought to bringing a few different samples of granite home in order to see how they’d look in the home environment. I’ve heard that it’s a good idea, too, to try and find a home in your neighborhood that has granite installed so that you can see exactly what the finished product will look like in an actual home. I’ll definitely make sure to use this information so that I can choose the perfect material to make my kitchen look beautiful and perfect.
