How Long Do Granite Countertops Last?

Written by Planet Granite, Inc. on . Posted in Counter Tops, Granite

More and more people are realizing that granite countertops aren’t just sleek and stylish, but they are durable. It is the combination of these two elements that are making more people consider installing granite countertops in Colorado Springs.

Granite Countertops Are Built to Last

Granite countertops are made using an all-natural stone known as granite. Granite is extremely strong and durable. It can not only withstand extreme temperatures, but it is so durable that it cannot be scratched or dented.

The use of this extremely durable natural stone means that those granite kitchen countertops you have installed in your home could last forever, but only with proper care and maintenance. In fact, your granite countertops will last so long the only time you will need to replace them is when you want to install new ones that have a different pattern or color.

Proper Maintenance Tips for Granite Countertops

With proper care and maintenance of your granite countertops, you will not scratch the surface while cutting fruits and vegetables or dent it by dropping a hard object on it.

The following are some basic granite countertop maintenance tips you can use to help keep your countertops lasting longer:

  • Use a soft sponge and mild soap to clean the surface of your countertop.
  • Avoid using cleaning agents that contain harmful chemicals.
  • Place cutting boards down before cutting vegetables and fruits.
  • Use countertops appropriately. Do not sit on them, stand on them or use them for any other purpose outside of the norm.
  • Replace the sealing on the countertops on a yearly basis.

I’m so glad to hear that granite is a durable option for kitchen counter tops. I would expect that just by how thick and hard the material is, but I’m glad to have it confirmed in my mind. we are looking to get some new counter tops put in our home, and granite is the option my wife wants the most. I hope it will look nice!
