Looking forward to some springtime renovating of your Colorado Springs home? Then you’ve come to the right place. At Planet Granite, many of our clients are keen on spring cleaning, and they’re asking how to select the best countertops for a germ-free kitchen. If selecting a countertop for ease of cleaning and disinfecting is an art, your kitchen can be a masterpiece. True, there are some differences among stone choices. Let’s take a look.

Granite

Granite is not only beautiful; it’s heroically scratch-resistant, making it a breeze to sanitize. Your new granite countertop is sealed to reduce porosity. While granite can stand up to harsh chemicals, we don’t recommend putting it to the test! Soapy water washes off germs. Like any natural stone surface, granite is susceptible to seepage, so it’s a good idea to seal a granite countertop yearly to be sure it’s completely bacteria-resistant, with a brilliant shine.

Marble

It’s sleek, cool, and beautiful. Yet marble is a softer stone than other countertop choices. A new marble countertop is sealed, shielded from common kitchen acids including citrus juices, vinegar, and condiments. And, like granite, marble needs to be sealed regularly, using stone sealer intended for marble countertops. Correctly sealed and regularly wiped down, marble offers lasting and classic beauty.

Quartz

This is the winner if your top criterion is hygienic perfection. Quartz is the best-in-class choice for a pristine countertop surface, as bacteria cannot lodge in its tough, impermeable surface. Nor is seepage or staining an issue with quartz. Germs can be easily wiped away with a soapy, wet cloth.

To your health!

Of course, it’s essential to banish viruses and bacteria from the place you prepare nourishing meals. Have sudsy water on hand, and remember to change your sponge or wash your dish towels regularly.
